Thursday marked the final hunt for one last hoorah with Trace, Mike and Jeff. We decided to go to a spot in the woods that Trace and I accidently got lost in one day and we ended coming out of the woods in someone's back yard. It took a few seconds for me to decide if we were going to make a run for it across this guys property or politely knock on his door and let him know we got turned around in the woods, and that we needed to walk across his property to get back to our truck. Well we decided knocking was the proper thing to do. It turned out this gentlemen was one of the nicest guys we ever met and we learned that the main part of his house was built in the late 1700's early 1800's, and that his property held many other places to hunt. After a long conversation with him and his wife we were given the permission to detect and come back any time we wished. Not finding much in a few spots we decided to call it quits but we did not write off this property, we knew there was something there to be found. Flash forward-----> For Traces last hunt in South Carolina we decided to hit this property one last time. To make a long story short some nice finds were recovered. Trace found a musket ball which he graciously gave to the land owner and Mike found a nice trade token. I had a great day finding a Silver half, Spanish cut silver, flat button and a copper (bad shape).
Trace, I can honestly say I am glad to have been your friend, a real friendship is a rare and precious gift, strong,
stable, yet fragile, and never to be taken for granted. Farewell and Good luck
May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand.
