    Re: Last Sundays digs

The land-owner was very happy to get the ring.  When I found it, I called him over to show it to him.  There were two sets of initials on it.  As I read the initials off to him, his eyes lit up and he said - "hey, those are my grand-father's initials!"  He told me his grandfather's name and how he used to farm the property and how he used to "party" with his friends at the old school house after it was closed.

I asked him his grandmother's maiden name - which he quickly recited to me.  I then told him that I had some good news and bad news for him... I said to him as I placed the ring in his hand: "The good news is that you now have your Grandfather's ring.  The bad news is that if your grandmother is still alive, she's not going to be happy, because those aren't her initials!".  He laughed and said that his mother may know whose initials they were.

At first he didn't want to keep the ring - but I insisted he take it.  Heck, to walk out into a 60 ac. field and pop out his grandfather's ring while he was there... well, it was just meant to be.

As far as the the "thumping" Bill delivered to us on Sunday, I thought I was doing pretty good to find 9 bullets in 2 hours.  As I dug in my own little spot, I kept noticing Bill digging a hole about 25 yards away.  Every time I looked over there, I saw him digging in the hole... I figured he was digging out a rifle pit or something.  Nope, he was digging different holes!  There just wasn't any time in between them for me to notice any detecting going on.  Very impressive.  Darkness was pretty much the only thing that stopped him.

Now, there is a well-known rule in the "Relic Hunter's Book of Conduct"... (I think it is in Section 1, Rule #19, Part 2.1b),  It states that "If you walk away from a hot spot, it's fair game for other diggers".  Don't you know there's going to be a foot race next time we go in there!

     Dig-it!
