    Geeked [8-|] Hunted Out Sites

I will not be able to attend the coming Tuesday meeting, due to WORK!!!!!, so I would like to share a story with my friends here.

This past weekend I had a few hours to kill.  I decided to try to catch a property owner at home to gain access to a site, to no avail.  So, with 2 hours to kill, I decided to stop and hunt a small site several of my friends and I had been to, over the years.  Now this site had produced some really good items.....Indian Heads, a few bullets, flat buttons, and even a rough, small SC Cuff Button.

Due to high iron content, I decided to try something different on the Fisher F75. I set the discrimination to null out everything 20 and below.  Typically I do not do this, believing that All Metal gives me a better feel for the ground.  I decided to hunt this property in a different pattern than the last time I was here.  I went 90 deg's against the pattern I had previously used.

About 30 minutes in, I had the Bottom of a Williams Cleaner, a Bail Seal, and a flat piece of lead.....nothing great.  Then.....a steady signal.  One the repeated itself in all directions.  (at this point let me add a tip for F75 users.....the F75 will indicate a good target when the target is on the perimeter of the coil, even if it is no good.  Once you get directly over the target, it will fade to iron.  This is a bit aggravating, but just part of the hunting pattern of this machine.)

Anyway, Solid Target.  I dug a 5" round hole about 4" deep and saw the back of a two-piece button.....That's when the prayers start....OH PLEASE BE A GOOD 'UN.

Brushing the dirt away.....I see the outline of a Palmetto Tree.....YES YES YES YES YES Party!!!

This turned out to be an SC #5B from the Albert's button book.  RV5.  But to make it more interesting, this button has a back mark that is not listed in the book.   This one is made by Kendrick & Co.  Albert's does not list it.

The point of this blog is to simply say.....try something different.  Try a different setting on your machine.  Hunt a different pattern.  Dig ALL SIGNALS.

    Most important.....get out and DIG!

Have a great Thanks Giving Friends.
